Hunting
TYHP: The majority ofDoc’s Memorial Outdoor Adventures hunting opportunities are offered through the Texas Youth Hunting Program . Landowners donate access to their properties, usually with a management plan in mind. Most, but not all our properties operate under the TPWD MLD program and Doc’s and TYHP help fill those MLD tags that would not otherwise be filled (does and cull bucks). On those properties not using the MLD tag system, landowners dictate what we can harvest. Often times we help with hogs, excess exotics and predators. The majority of the youth are first time hunters and these hunts are incredibly exciting experiences for everyone in the blind! TYHP hunts are YOUTH ONLY HUNTS, but a parent accompanies them the entire time. Doc’s/TYHP provide a guide for each pair and it is a true field to freezer experience. Youth are required to process their animals as part of the experience. TYHP hunts are very economical and are out cheapest hunts. One of the long term goals of Doc’s is to be able to provide scholarships for those youth that are in need to make these hunts virtually no cost.
Guides and Ranches: The remainder of Doc’s hunting opportunities are donated by independent guide services, hunting ranches not associated with TYHP, and individuals who have property and just want to be involved. Our guide and hunting ranch partners provide us professional opportunities at reduced rates to give youth and a parents a chance to experience the hunt together. These hunts include most of our bird hunts (doves, ducks, geese and cranes) as well as some exotic and cull hunts. Typically these hunts are more expensive than TYHP hunts but at a discount from the general public, and parents and other family members often have the opportunity to hunt as well. They are great for experienced hunters as well as first timers.
Camping:
We do a giant, multi-family camping trip yearly near Jacksboro Texas at Lake Godstone, MarLuc Bella Vita Ranch . You have the choice of staying in a tent, primitive cabin, cabin or lodge. Activities include fishing, gun range, archery, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, bike riding, field sports, basketball and volleyball. This trip is for the entire family. Doc’s provides fishing gear, bait, firearms, ammo and archery gear. There is limited space “indoors” but there are plenty of tent pads and campgrounds, the majority of which have water and electrical access, fire pits and grills. You set back and enjoy the weekend, and Doc’s does the heavy lifting, including cooking the main course to the Saturday evening and Sunday morning meals. No experience is necessary, and Doc’s even loans out equipment and supplies like tents, cots and coolers. It is perfect for first timers!
Fishing
Most of our fishing opportunities originate on campus at our local ponds, then branch out with the help of landowners and guides. Striper trips on Texoma, Catfish at Ray Roberts, and Sandies at Lake Lewisville. Saltwater trips out of Port Aransas, salmon in Michigan and trout in the rockies, Doc’s students have fished all over!
